17-Year-Old Teen Got a Porsche Thanks to an Old Cell Phone

Porsche is an expensive, fancy car. Not everyone affords it. But this unique story of Steven Ortiz of Glendora gives us a different perspective. Of hope, perhaps? Because the 17-year-old boy got a Porsche thanks to his old unwanted cell phone.
As reported by Rebecca Kimitch of Pasadenastarnews.com, this remarkable story began two years ago. Steven was gifted a cell phone by his friend. We will never know the actual reason why he disliked that cell phone. He just simply did not want it. He then went to Craiglist, a centralized network of online communities where people put up classified ads for free. In short, he put up an advertisement, trying to trade his cell phone with another better stuff. And guess what? Someone actually responded to the advertisement and Ortiz ended up with an iPod Touch!
At that exact point Ortiz found and understood the power of online trading. He continued his trading journey. He put up another advertisement on Craiglist, trading his iPod Touch. He got a MacBook for a change. It went on, from one trade to another, and Ortiz has made almost 14 trades in total. One of them even landed a Toyota 4Runner on his car port!
Unfortunately for Ortiz, that Toyota 4Runner could not be considered a great deal. Being a 15-year-old boy, he could not drive the car. He then traded it with an off road golf car. The car was traded again and he got a 1975 Ford Bronco. It was the exact car that gave him a 2000 Porsche Boxter S!
This story of the Charter Oak High School student might intrigue you to do the same thing, trading your unwanted items for a better stuff with much more value. However, keep in mind that such particular luck might not be for everyone. Even Steven himself said that those trades were quite hard to do.
He admits he has shared some trading tips, and one of those tips would be patience. “This kid contacted me via Facebook. He had a Blackberry and an iPod he didn’t need and he really needed a laptop. I told him how to post it online and what he needed to do,” Steven said. “He had no response for two weeks and he was going to give up. I told him he has to be patient. Right now he just sent me a message—he got a brand new HP laptop. He is extremely happy.”
He is currently planning to do another trade. You see, he wants to go to college to study either law or business major, and having such a fancy car as Porsche Boxter S unfortunately has cost him too much. He wants to swap it with another item. Let’s hope this time it satisfies him completely.
