James McAvoy as Young Professor X in X-Men Prequel

James McAvoy signed up for the role of the young Professor X for the upcoming Twentieth Century Fox movie X-Men Saga prequel X-Men: First Class.

In the original X-Men trilogy, Patrick Stewart played the role of Professor X who put together the X-Men Team. But before becoming Professor X, he was Charles Xavier who, together with closest friend Erik Lensherr, learn about his powers at a young age. Both worked with other mutants to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. Erik Lensherr later on become Charles Xavier's archenemy Magneto, a gap that broke the war between the Brotherhood and the X-Men.

Twentieth Century Fox has yet to announce the actor who will portray the young Erik Lensherr. British director Matthew Vaughn who directed "Snatch" and "Kick-Ass" will do the fifth X-Men franchise. Production is in fast moving and starts shooting in London this summer and is scheduled for release on June 3, 2011. 

James McAvoy previously starred in the movie "Wanted" along side Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman.
