The infinite vastness of space holds many mysteries, stellar phenomena, striking images nonexistent here on earth as well as answers to primal, nagging questions about life and existence beyond the comfort of our world. For centuries, astronomers and space scientists have tinkered with gadgets and tools to discover more about the wonderful, interstellar activities in the final frontier. And the Hubble Telescope from NASA has captured such moments in space, immortalizing them to our heart’s content and giving us glimpses of the limitless possibilities deep in space.
And this month marks a special place in history especially in astronomical circles as Hubble Telescope celebrates 20 years of taking photos and videos in space, two decades of dedicated service to NASA and the general public especially people of the academe. And it continues to churn out great images which each passing day especially with the striking, new images of Carina Nebula. It has also captured pillars of gas and light that starts the birth of new stars which releases hot jets of gas in a spectacular image and spectacle never before seen by the public eye.
The Hubble Telescope was named after astronomer Edwin P. Hubble and has been launched into deep space on April 24, 1990. Since then it has recorded more than 30,000 previously unknown celestial objects and has captured approximately half a million pictures. And with the installation of Wide Field Camera 3, it will surely get more graphic pictures until its scheduled retirement on 2014.
